Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief Funds

kids in a classroom wearing masksThe government has passed several packages that include additional funding of the Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief fund. These funds are allocated to districts via the Title 1 application process and are not based on need. In ESSER II (passed December 2020) and ESSER III (passed March 2021), almost $6 billion dollars has been allocated to schools to help them stop the spread of COVID-19. In ESSER II and ESSER III specifically, the following line item is included that specifically authorizes funding to be used for improvements to Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems in our schools:

(P) Inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, replacement, and upgrade projects to improve the indoor air quality in school facilities, including mechanical and non-mechanical heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, filtering, purification and other air cleaning, fans, control systems, and window and door repair and replacement.
